Memorial Day weekend is May 25 through 28.  To mark the occasion, South Wind Heights of Jonesboro has planned several events and they’re all free to the public.

On Friday, May 25, it will host a backyard BBQ at noon.  An educational seminar about VA benefits available to veterans and their surviving spouses will be held Saturday, May 26, at 10 a.m.  On Sunday, May 27, there will be an open house with refreshments at 10 a.m.  A Memorial Day celebration with dinner and entertainment will be held at noon on Monday, May 28.

If you bought a pair of Skechers Shape-Ups believing they would help you tone up, you’re due for a refund.

Skechers USA has agreed to settle a lawsuit over how it marketed its Shape-Ups, Tone-Ups and Resistance Runner athletic shoes.

The lawsuit alleged that without adequate support for its claims, Skechers claimed the rocker-bottom shoes helped wearers lose weight, burn calories, improve circulation, fight cellulite and strengthen thigh, buttock and back muscles.

From 3 until 7 p.m. that day the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce will host a Job Fair at the Lawrence County Meeting Room, 115 W. Walnut St. in Walnut Ridge.

Employers will be on hand accepting applications.  Workshops will also be provided on such topics as “Dress for Success,” “Resume Making” and “Interviewing Tips.”

Solve a murder mystery and help the Red Cross

Today's the last day to buy a ticket to "Fowl Play at the Gilded Cage Lounge" and help the Northeast Arkansas Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The organization will present the dinner theater murder mystery on Friday, May 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the Holidome of the Holiday Inn, 3006 S. Caraway Rd. in Jonesboro.

Tickets are $60 per person, $100 for couples and $400 for tables.  They can be purchased at the Red Cross office located at 305 W. Jefferson Ave. before the close of business today.

Car club hopes to "fill up" food pantry

 

The Arkansas Antique Car Club will host a Show and Shine car show on Saturday, May 19th at Bill's Fresh Market on Highway 49 North in Jonesboro from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

A $5.00 donation is required for each vehicle entered in the show.  One free lunch will be provided for each entry. 

Entries will be judged by the public with non-perishable items for the  Helping Neighbors Food Pantry.

The entry with the most money or food items will receive a trophy for people's choice.
