Wanted sex offender found hiding in closet | Crime
A convicted sex offender found hiding in a closet is now behind bars, according to Newport police.
Loman Clark, 30, was arrested Tuesday for failure to comply with registration and reporting requirements, a Class C felony.
According to a news release from Lt. Patrick Weatherford, Clark was convicted of sexual assault in 2008 and ordered to register as a sex offender.
In November 2012, Clark registered his address as 1004 Village Dr. in Newport. He was required to verify his registration again on March 9.
On March 19, officers from the Department of Community Correction went to the address where they learned Clark had moved, Weatherford said.
On March 25, a felony warrant was issued for Clark.
On April 2, officers from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and Newport police began a search for Clark.
According to Weatherford, they found him at 1900 North State St. hiding in a closet.
Clark surrendered to officers and was taken to the Jackson County Detention Center. In addition to the felony warrant, Clark was also wanted for a misdemeanor warrant from NPD and felony warrant for a parole violation.
He appeared in district court on Wednesday where a judge set his bond at $75,000. Clark was also ordered to appear in Jackson County Circuit Court on April 22.
